Tommy and I made it safely back to California after being in the car for way too long! The drive home wasn't too easy because every time we stopped, Tommy was more and more sore. But that's what happens after a marathon. He ran the Newport Marathon and it was a beautiful course and great day for running. I was able to see him multiple times throughout the race which was great. The first 20 miles he felt great and average a 7:10 pace, but after that his body started to shut down. Thats what happens when you get sick 2 weeks before your marathon and have to basically stop training!
We really enjoyed being with the family for the few short days we were there. We had an awesome birthday party--I wish I had a picture of Mr. and Mrs. Kasoogi to share with everyone! We also were able to visit Papa and Grandma in Santa Cruz on our drive up to Oregon. Tommy loved Papa's go-cart thing, or "cricket" as Aunt Jeanie and Uncle Dave call it.
Is was a great trip. I'm sad the trip is over, but glad we don't have to drive that crappy Hundai Accent anymore. But after being in Oregon--or really just outside of Southern California--this place seems a whole lot crappier. GREAT. Well, crappy is to strong of a word and feeling. So lets just say I feel like this place does not live up to its hype.
